HERE AND NOW
Hey, folks. This issue is fairly brief so I can have time to take care of other tasks. But—remember the zucchini plant I mentioned in the last issue? I have some “before and after pics” because things changed rapidly overnight:
ART
Next Saturday, artist, podcaster, and poet Melissa Smedley (aka The Art Ranger) will be answering Six Questions! Pour yourself a cuppa tea, and check out that issue on July 30.
Here’s an image from [my] real life, or what artists in Mastodon.art call “Not an Instagram Art Studio.”:
LINKS
Several sites I’ve checked out recently.
Halimah Marcus interviews SciFi author Ted Chiang, who discusses “the disaster novel we all suddenly live in.”
From Mason Curry’s newsletter, Subtle Maneuvers: “Advice on starting projects (and sticking with them).”
I recently watched “Last Night in SoHo,” (dark side of 60s pop culture) which was the last film that actress Dame Diana Rigg starred in. I was sorry to hear that it was her last film, and she passed away shortly after. In honor of Dame Diana, my partner bought me a bottle of Campari and soda and we drank a toast to her. Director Edgar Wright tells us about his lovely last encounter with the famed “Avengers” icon: “Cinema, Campari and a carrier bag of Quality Street: Edgar Wright remembers Diana Rigg.”
SOUNDINGS
Watch FKJ (aka French Kiwi Juice) build a song in this amazing solo jam session on Tiny Desk [Home] Concert (video and text).
“Cyborg” animation dancer Marquese Scott, in “Drop Science”:
Podcast intereview: “Jia Tolentino on the rise of mutual aid” (from 2020), as she noted “it’s about what we can do right here, right now” [that the state isn’t providing]: See the full article in the New Yorker.
Have a great weekend.
Oh, hey: I now have a ko-fi site if you’d like to make a donation. ;-)
