Curation Issue
No. 236: Daily Cat; Warren Chang, Sal Randolph, Rama Duwaji, Ibrahim El-Salahi, Meryenda, Christian Bang Jensen, Joshua Heath Scott on Byung Chul-Han, Magiliw Street, ASIN & Noy Pillora
I’m overwhelmed with work right now, butbecause I curate habitually for this newsletter, I decided to make this a curation issue. First, a cat from my Daily Drawing Cycle:
RABBIT HOLE
Painter Warren Chang is known for his art documenting the reality of farm workers in Monterey County and Salinas Valley:
Sal Randolph’s approach to art always inspires me. Here she gives a dharma talk on “Artwork as Koan”:
Rama Duwaji is a Syrian artist, animator, and ceramicist based in Brooklyn. You may also know of her as the “First Lady of New York City.” Here’s a video short on an animation she did recently:
Ibrahim El-Salahi x 2:
1) Sudanese artist Ibrahim El-Salahi uses the circumstance of constraint in his life to create small works of art that inspire him to create larger works:
2) El-Salahi speaks about his work in his studio:
Cooking is an art! Here’s an interesting article, “Fizz, Funk, and Flavor: Following Philippine Ferments” (on the art of fermentation in the Philippines) in Meryenda, by Jessica Hernandez and Cassandra Balbas.
Danish artist Christian Bang Jensen’s note on asemics and mysticism.
The importance of the tangible in art: Joshua Heath Scott comments on Byung Chul-Han’s book Non-things:
SOUNDINGS:
Magiliw Street (a band named after a street in the Philippines) performs “Akasya” (Acacia tree); Carl Lexter is the dancer/choreographer. According to the notes, “Akasya is a song about new beginnings, growth, and finding hope while navigating uncertainty. . . Symbolized by the Akasya trees, the song reminds us that even as we question where we are headed, there are constant, beautiful things around us that makes life easier to bear with.”
Sean (Sean’s Music Hunt) interviews Noy Pillora:

Love the daily cat! I did some drawing challenges on Instagram with cats: Catuly and Catober. We'd draw a cat a day. My cats were not as fine as this handsome guy, Jean! Thanks for the cat!
Thank you for sharing. A wonderful collection to be part of.
