Monterey Weather
The day began as usual, clothed in uniform gray.
Mid-morning turned sunny; I sat on the brick stoop
cradling my mug of Assam tea. A couple steps down,
a slender, new dragonfly shifted position, drying
its translucent wings in the sun; too young for iridescent tints.
Now, as I type this looking out the window, shadows
cast from the Sally Wattle tree are creeping
up the neighbor’s shingled roof. My brain tells me
the sky is blue, and I believe it.
