2/13/2025
Hello,
I have moved the contents of my Commonwealth Cafe (CC) newsletter over to Eulipion Outpost (EO). CC is now a “section” of EO, accessible in the menu at the top of the EO homepage (if you don’t see the menu here, click on the blue EO logo).
Originally, I kept both as entirely separate newsletters. But as I began posting about a project to read and write about my Filipino parents’ and grandparents’ letters—ranging historically from the early to late 20th century—EO changed its focus from ethnic culture and the arts to intersections of history, culture, and the arts.1
Also, the Letter Project has necessarily become an archival project,2 and the archival interests of both newsletters have begun to overlap. So, it seemed more prudent to keep them together on one site.
My “arts” curation continues to be an important part of EO.
So, it’s been moving day for CC. Later today, 2/13/2025, I will shut down the original Substack site. You can access it from the EO newsletter.
Commonwealth Cafe will function more like a blog (somewhat shorter and irregular posts), and it is still free. You can follow, subscribe, or unsubscribe to the section as with any newsletter. The use of sections on Substack is new to me—and I’m a little nervous about this change—so if you have any problems with it, please let me know in comments.
I look forward to sharing more of my explorations into the arts, archives, and AAPI history with you!

1 My perspective on the project changed a lot when I started to understand the larger contexts of my father’s employment—as a kitchen steward—in the Marshall Islands nuclear testing projects of the 1950s.
2 Because my parents wrote many, many letters, the archival piece is taking much longer than I expected!
